Bored 'N' Gaming - Trouble

Hello there fans of ChrisCrossMedia! Today we bring you yet another classic board game for you to feast your eyes on. So go run and hid in your bedroom because you're about to get into Trouble!

Trouble is a very unique board game. Unlike most board games where you roll the die with your hands, in Trouble all you have to do is push the center hub, known as the Pop-O-Matic. When you push the Pop-O-Matic the die inside is rebounded around and falls on one of six sides to give you the amount of spaces that you may move on the board. The overall goal of the game is to move all four of your pegs to the finish zone. In order to move one of your pegs out of the home zone you must roll a 6 on the die. Once you roll a 6 and move your peg to the start position you may roll the die once again. Move the peg around the board until you get to the finish zone. Be careful though! If one of your oppnents' peg lands on your peg then you have to send your peg back to the home section of the board game. Not until you get all four of your pegs to the finish zone do you win the game. If this explanation of the rules didn't help, then just read here for more information.

Trouble, as you may have guessed, is also one of my favorite board games of all time. Unlike Monopoly and Mouse Trap, Trouble was a game that I bought new from the get go. I have many fond memories of this game as well, too many to mention. If I had to choose one of those memories to talk about today it would have to be the following. Trouble was a game that I remember playing with siblings the most, and that is something that is missing today in the household. I hope that in due time I go out and purchase some of these board games and restart on the family bonding that there once was.

Bored 'N' Gaming - Mouse Trap

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to our second installment of Bored 'N' Gaming. This Wednesday we bring you another classic, Mouse Trap. The original Mouse Trap was first published by Ideal back in 1963, and since then the game hasn't been changed much at all.

This was also one of the very first board games that I was ever introduced to. My mom purchased my first copy of the game from a garage sale, and unfortunately it was missing some pieces of the mouse trap. As you can imagine I was really disappointed, because I really wanted to see if the whole trap really worked. Through out the years I would purchase multiple copies, mostly form thrift stores, but never did I have all the pieces to the board game. Eventually my mom bought me a copy at a Toys R Us and finally in my life I had a brand new copy of Mouse Trap! I would always take the game with me to the baby sitters house, and would play with her son, Christiaan, who is now one of my closest friends. I have a lot of memories of laughter from victories, and also some sad ones from losing, or just sadness because the trap sometimes wouldn't work. :P

The game can be played by 2-4 players, and as always the more players the better. The main object in this game is to be the last mouse standing. The game starts off by rolling two die, and then moving that total number of spaces on the board. As you take turns rolling the die and moving places on the board, you will land on spaces that require you to build the mouse trap, one of the major points of the game. When you land on a "build" space you also collect one piece of cheese, which plays an important role in the game later on. When you get to the end of the board you end up in a continuous loop of 6 spaces. On those 6 spaces you can collect double the cheese when you land on a "build" space. Once the whole mouse trap is built, the game begins to get exciting and interesting. 

As you go around and around in the loop area you will occasionally land on a "crank" space. If there is a mouse under the trap when you land on the "crank" space then start cranking the trap and see if you can capture the mouse to eliminate the player from the game. Remember that I said that the cheese was an important part of the game? Well only during your turn you can trade in a slice of cheese to roll the die again, and move an opponents mouse those many spaces on the board. The point of this is to try and get your opponents mouse underneath the trap. One game usually takes on average around 30 minutes. So grab yourself a copy of this game, grab some friends, and start trapping those mouses!

Bored 'N' Gaming - Monopoly

Hello there everyone! Welcome to ChrisCrossMedia’s first segment of Bored ‘N’ Gaming, where we take board games of yesterday, and review them for play today.

The first board game on our agenda is the all-time classic, Monopoly. Monopoly hands down is one of the best board games ever created. It has spawned countless versions and both special and collector’s editions, each with their own distinct features and twists to the original game. Monopoly has always been a classic board game, but it has also appeared on the Nintendo consoles and on cellphones as a stand alone game.

 

For those of you not familiar with the game, there’s a search engine named Google so you could look up the rules of the game. Ha just kidding! All right, jokes aside. 

The game can begin when there is more than one person, obviously the more the better, so go out and round up all your friends. At the beginning of the game the banker hands out $1,500 to each player. Figure out how you want to take turns and then start the game. Every turn you roll two die and add up the sum of shown on the die. Then move those many spaces on the board and do as the spaces show. You then just go around buying, selling, bidding on properties, paying bills to the bank or other players, and other miscellaneous things that Chance or Community Chest cards ask for. The goal of the game is to be the last one standing with all the money in the world, hence the board game’s name. Down to the core, Monopoly is a really simple and fun game that everyone should try.

I’d like to finish this off with a personal story. I have many fond memories with this game, but one that I will never forget has to do with one of the best special editions of Monopoly ever created, Pokemon Monopoly.

Pokemon Monopoly was probably the reason why I got hooked to the classic board game to begin with. The tokens were so distinct and cool, and they were made out of this playful squishy material.

I remember super gluing the Pikachu token onto my Gameboy Color, so that I could say that I had a special Pikachu edition Gameboy Color like all my cool friends at school. Let’s just say that wasn’t one of my brightest ideas. But the one thing that I’ll never forget is that every morning, during my summer break from grade school, I would wake up and head straight over to my cousin’s house to play Pokemon Monopoly. From all the times that I ever went I never lost a match to them, I was always the best. 

And till this day I still hold my prized record, of never ever losing a game of Monopoly. Anyone up for a game of Monopoly?
