Goodbye Sonic, Hello Zelda

It's hard to say this, but someone has to say it, Sonic Month is officially over. And though you still may see a Sonic the Hedgehog background on YouTube, Twitter, and Blogger he is no longer part of the CCM family...for now.

Starting today, the first Monday of the month, we are beginning our much anticipated Legend of Zelda Month! We are excited just as much as all of you for this theme. This year has marked many anniversaries in the gaming industry, with Master Chief turning 10, Sonic turning 20, and of course Zelda turning 25. Not only was Zelda the first month that we ever did, it is also one of our most popular themes to date, and that's why we enjoy making Zelda related content. This time around though Zelda means a lot more to us than in the past.  There is another anniversary though that wasn't mentioned, and that's ChrisCrossMedia turning 2! On November 30th 2011 we turned 2 on YouTube with ChrisCrossMedia. On that day, two years ago, we posted our first video on the channel we have all grown to love. It had the foundation to what we do now, but boy were we different. It's a good change though, and we're sure that we can all agree that it was for the best.

Back in December of 2009 we started our "themed months" that we have grown to be know for, and our first month was none other than The Legend of Zelda. If my memory is still working correctly, I'm sure that we had our first giveaway for The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for the Nintendo DS, but correct me if I'm wrong. We have now gone full circle again and are beginning our fourth year on YouTube, but only our third as ChrisCrossMedia. There is no doubt that without all of you none of this would be possible, so we can't thank you enough.

We could go on and on about this, but we're sure that you know how much you all mean to us. So let's start off December with a bang and countdown the final days of 2011 together! This was one heck of a year, and the next will be bigger and better. Please stay tuned for our last month of 2011, it's going to be a blast! And as always, you have just been ChrisCrossed!

Knuckles' Chaotix

Knuckles' Chaotix, the only Sonic related game whatsoever to ever be released for the Sega 32X. For the longest time we never knew that this game ever existed, and we're sure that most of you didn't know of this game's existence either. But if you did, then pat yourself on the back, because this is one hidden gem of a game that we wished we had known about when we were growing up. Wow talk about alliteration with the letter "w", that sure was a tongue twister.

Knuckles' Chaotix was released in 1995 for the Sega 32X, which was just an add-on to the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, that allowed the console to display games in 32 bits rather than the original 16 bits. As stated earlier, it was the only game to be released for this expansion that had anything relating to Sega's mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog. Knuckle's Chaotix introduced three new characters to the Sonic family; Vector the Crocodile, Espio the Chameleon, and Charmy Bee. The game also featured a returning character from SegaSonic the Hedgehog, an aracde game released in Japan in 1993, Mighty the Armadillo. Alongside Knucles the Echidna, all these characters together formed what is now known as Team Chaotix.

Though we have never had the chance to play this game, we still had to talk about it in hopes that some of you have heard about or even played the game. We have watched reviews, walkthroughs, and let's plays of this game in order to get familiar with the game mechanics so that we could talk a little bit about the game. In essence it's a Sonic the Hedgehog game. You still have to collect rings, defeat Dr. Robotnik's enemies, and reach the finish line within the 10 minute time limit to get a great score. Except that this time around you have one of your team members attached to you at all times. Yes you read that right, attached. Unlike in Sonic 2 where Tails was free roaming the screen and got occasionally lost,Knuckles' Chaotix had you magically attached to your partner by a rubber-band-like substance. This seemed to make game play really unique and challenging, and it added a whole new style of play to the already popular Sonic the Hedgehog side-scrolling platformer. One day we will get our hands on this game and give it the play through that it deserves from ChrisCrossMedia, because from the looks of it, it looks like an amazing game.

But the main reason that we wanted to write this article was to talk about the characters that debuted in Knuckles' Chaotix. Chris and I, for as long as we can remember, have hated Vector, Espio, and Charmy. When we first saw them in Sonic Heroes as Team Chaotix we were instantly disgusted at the unoriginal, which is what we thought at the time, design that these characters had. We were under the impression that these characters were just created on the spot and put into the game as filler characters. Characters for the sake of characters so to speak. Boy were we wrong. After recently finding out that these characters debuted in 1995 we have found a new love for them. We no longer dislike or hate them, but instead praise them. This goes to show the large gap that we had with Sonic related games during our childhood, and you have games like Mario and Zelda to blame for that. We're not saying that we are disappointed that we played Mario and Zelda rather than all these other Sonic games. We just wish that we would have been exposed to both worlds just as much.

You might have noticed that there is one member of Team Chaotix not pictured above in 3D, not including Knuckles of course. That character would be Mighty the Armadillo. Mighty hasn't been in a game since Knuckles' Chaotix, and has yet to receive the 3D treatment that all his other companions have already received for sometime now. He does however have a cameo appearance in Sega's latest game, Sonic Generations. There are "missing since 1993" posters of Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Squirrel, also a character from the 1993 arcade game SegaSonic the Hedgehog, throughout Sonic Generations. It's interesting to note Sega's mistake here, because Mighty's last appearance was really in 1995, not 1993, in Knuckles' Chaotix. Maybe they don't consider this game canon? We may never know.

I wouldn't mind a new game that just featured the fabulous five members of Team Chaotix. If this were to happen we may finally see the 3D version of Mighty the Armadillo, which is something that we are dying to see. These characters have now grown on us, especially now that we know they are old school characters, not the unoriginal ones we thought they were back when Sonic Heroes launched. Did you know about Knuckles' Chaotix? Did you know that Vector, Espio, and Charmy debuted in 1993? Are we the only two people that had the same thought when Sonic Heroes launched? Please leave your stories and comments down below.

Here is our first episode of our Sonic Generations Let's Play, if you haven't watched it yet of course. Thanks for ready, and you have just been ChrisCrossed!

E3 2011 - Sonic Generations

Wow! That's all I can say. It's amazing to see that after 20 years our favorite blue hedgehog is still running around at the speed of sound. And this month over at ChrisCrossMedia we are celebrating just that, his 20th birthday.

This year is going to mark the release of what's soon to be one of the best Sonic games ever made, Sonic Generations. This game will be released on console for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, and on the 3DS for portable gaming. We got a chance to play this game on the E3 showroom, and also at Sonic Boom 2011, and let me tell you, it is the best Sonic game ever made! I love the fact that we get to play as both classic Sonic and modern Sonic. This game has really taken all of the good that has ever come out of other Sonic games and packaged it into one amazing game.

The demo that we played only had two levels, one with classic Sonic and one with modern Sonic, and both of them were great. You still get the same nostalgic feel when you play as classic Sonic, and much of the controls are true to the original 2D side-scrolling games. As for the 3D style play, it is the best that we have ever seen. It has taken all the positives from Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Colors and turned it into a beautiful masterpiece. The camera always keeps up with the super sonic hedgehog, and the mechanics are really fluent. I'm a Sonic fan and there wasn't one thing that I didn't like from what I saw at the demo.

Do you see that screenshot up there? Yes you're eyes aren't deceiving you. That is City Escape from Sega Dreamcast's "Sonic Adventure 2"! Hands down that has to be one of my favorite levels ever in a Sonic title. The level design was amazing and it featured one of the best songs to ever appear in a Sonic game. Not only do we play a re-imagined City Escape with modern Sonic, we also get to choose classic Sonic to see what he could do in an environment alien to him. Personally I cant wait until this game comes out. We will do what we can to try and get it early to review it and really let you know what we think of the full game. But as we stand now, this is looking to be a must have for Sonic and non-Sonic fans alike.

Sonic and Zelda Month!

Hello there everyone, hope you all are having a wonderful weekend! I would like to start out by apologizing again for the lack of blog updates here on the site. I'm truly sorry, especially to all of our 40 followers that we have attained on our Blogger page. The internet has just been really bad here at the house and every time that I would try to write something up my internet would fail. I'm kind of surprised that my internet hasn't failed yet at the moment.

As most of you know by now, we are doing our first ever "ChrisCrossMonth". What this means is that we are combing two themes and putting them all in once. There have been a couple of comment's on our most recent video (displayed below) stating that they are disappointed because we aren't doing both Sonic and Zelda individually. I would like to say right off the bat that we did this for a reason. We have come up with some sweet video ideas that use elements from both series and that is why we decided to combine them. So don't be thinking that we like one over the other. We like both Sonic and Zelda equally.

We will be going to California on Monday because we are going to be attending our first E3 ever! We are just excited as all of you, and we would like to thank you because none of this would have happened if it wasn't for all of you! We will be uploading sweet content during that week and also be keeping you up to date on the news as soon as it comes out. So be sure to check our YouTube page and our Blogger frequently next week. And for those of you who are wondering...the giveaway winner from last month will also be announced next week. I'm Christian, and you've just been ChrisCrossed!

Also check out the new poll below!

The Rapture of Zelda

Well would you look at that, we all survived the rapture! Good afternoon everyone and welcome to this week's ChrisCrossMonday, where we usually cover the games that were or will be released this week. Unfortunately, for some of you, we are going to switch up these daily blogs from now on. My reasoning behind this was that the blogs tended to be too stale and weren't as personal as I wanted them to be. You come here to see what we do an a day-to-day basis, and us telling you what things are released doesn't really do that very well. So from now on we will still cover the blog poll from the previous week, but instead of talking game launches we will focus more on what games we are playing at the moment.

The votes for last week's poll were at an all-time low since the start of our daily blogs. There were only a total of 22 votes! What happened last week fans? Our question to all of you was: Which one of these ships would you like to be a captain of? Well here are the results!

The Interceptor     (5%)

The Black Pearl     (64%)

The Flying Dutchman     (31%)

Not so surprising huh? Actually these are the exact results that I was expecting. I mean c'mon who doesn't want to be the captain of The Black Pearl? Thanks to everyone who took time out of their day to participate in our poll, and I would really like to see more involvement this week, so if you haven’t voted then please vote below. We may just actually give the winning option a chance. ;)

If you guys are interested in seeing what I am currently playing then please read on, if not then just vote and come in and check for tomorrow’s blog. As of now I am trying REALLY hard to finally beat Sonic the Hedgehog and The Legend of Zelda. As a kid I would always play Sonic with my friend Christiaan, he was the special one with a Sega Genesis, and we could never beat the game. Sonic the Hedgehog was just too hard for us at our age, and because of that I just never gave it a try again, until now. As for The Legend of Zelda, I never got a chance to play it. It was one of the games that I wish I had owned when I had my NES. As most of you may know, the first game that I actually played was The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, for the GameBoy Color.

So for the time being I will be playing those until I conquer them. I’ll be sure to leave a post on Facebook and Twitter for when I complete them. What games are you playing at the moment? Leave a comment down below. Hope you enjoyed the little switch up here on our blog! I’m Christian, and you’ve just been ChrisCrossed!
